We are currently working at upgrading our entire website. Because we have hundreds of pages in our site, it is taking us awhile to complete it. Please check back often as we continue with our updates.
May has arrived, this is a month that seems to be especially filled with activity for our family. Perhaps because we have many birthdays to celebrate as well as anniversaries.
At Earthy Family we love to celebrate. May offers lots of opportunity to learn about new cultures through celebration of special days.
May 4th is China’s Traditional Youth Day. The Youth Day celebrations commemorates the day of the first mass student movement in China which occurred in 1919. College students often celebrate the day with fun outdoor activities and May 4th medals are awarded for outstanding academic performance. What a great day to learn more about China.
May 5th is Cinco de Mayo - This is an important day for Mexican people. It marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. The day represents Mexican unity and patriotism. Find our more about Mexico and Cinco de Mayo in our Learn about Mexico section. You will find more about Cinco de Mayo in Mexico Festivals. What a great day to try your hand at cooking some Mexican food.
May 13 we celebrate Mother's Day. Enjoy some of the stories and poems we have gathered from mothers. If you would like to send us an item for this page, email it to us and we will add it to the page.
May 15th is International Day of Families. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly resolution in 1993 and reflects the importance the international community attaches to families. What a great time to celebrate living in a family environment! Talk with your family about what a family is (there are as many definitions as there are families), and what is truly great about a family like yours. Cook a special meal and linger at the dinner table, or spend some family time together doing a favored activity and celebrating each other and your wonderful bond, you may want to celebrate with your extended family and learn some family history from the seniors in your family.
If you know of other festivals or special days associated with the month of May, let us know so we can add them to our festivals page.
Enjoy the month!
Cranberry Muffins Recipe (SCD approved and gluten free)
These have become our favourite muffins and so easy to make.
3 cups of almond flour ( we grind our own almonds in the food processor to make our almond flour)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsps. cinnamon
1 tsp. pure vanilla
3 eggs
1/2 cup honey
1 1/2 cups of fresh or frozen cranberries
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, mix well. Add cranberries last, after you have mixed the other ingredients. Divide mixture evenly into muffin tins to make 12 muffins. Bake at 325 degrees for approx. 25 mins. (depending on your oven it could take a few mins. longer)
