Base Carrier Oils

Jojoba
Jojoba Oil is actually not an oil, but a liquid wax. It has a greater life expectancy than most oils which tend to go rancid, and is therefore a great addition to a home that uses carrier oils infrequently. It is a great hair and skin nourisher and can be used for both massage and bath. Jojoba is good for all skin types.

Olive
Olive oil is great for use on skin as it is very nourishing, though the strong scent of it can sometimes overpower the essential oil. Use organic, cold-pressed oil virgin olive oil for maximum benefit. It is best used on dry skin.

Grapeseed
This is a very light oil and makes an excellent massage base. Grapeseed oil has no scent of its own and therefore is very well suited for aromatherapy blends. Unscented it is fabulous as an infant massage oil and is safe for newborn children as it is very mild.

Sweet Almond
This is a great all-purpose base for aromatherapy blends as it has no scent and yet is very nurturing to the skin. It can also be used as a massage, bath or body oil and is great for all skin types, including babies and children. Sweet Almond oil has not been shown to aggravate nut allergies, but if this is a real concern for you, grapeseed or olive oil are excellent alternatives.
