Words and Phrases in Arabic
Language of Egypt

Arabic language
Arabic is the official language of Egypt. It is a Semitic language, closely related to the Hebrew language and is spoken in more than twenty-two countries, ranging from Morrocco to Iraq, and as far south as Somalia and the Sudan. It is also the language of the Qur’an, the Holy book of Islam. Arabic varies from country to country with many different spoken dialects. However written Arabic has changed little.

Many other languages, such as Iranian, Turkish, Portuguese, Spanish and English, are full of words that you can trace back to Arabic origins. While the English number system comes from Arabic numerals, modern Arabs generally use Hindi numerals.

Alphabet
The Arabic alphabet originates from the eastern version of Aramaic script and, like Hebrew, it is written from right to left.
